Summer / Holiday Programs

LCHS summer camp programs are offered June-Aug.  Special holiday camps for children 7-12  can be arranged by contacting the youth education director Programs can be held at your site or at the home of the history center in Painesville Township.

All programs are $4 to 5.00 per student,

Native American Adventures for Summer Camp

Bring the kids to our Native American Village, or request Professor Whittlsey to come to you! Children will learn what an Archeologist does, and what an artifact is by articipating in an archeological dig! They will also hear tales of Indian legends, and make a necklace of their own to take home. 90 minute program, 15 student minimum. Call for 639-2945 or email

1830s Survivor

Broad jump the creek, compete in the firewood stacking relay, make a quilt from a "puzzle" of pieces, and other activities will test your pioneering skills. Awards to all participants. Ages 6-10; 90 minutes; $5.00/child ($75.00 minimum)

 

 

Can You Dig It?

Learn about archaeology by participating in a mini-dig to find and analyze fossils and historical artifacts. Learn what it takes to be an archaeologist and get an up-close look at some items found at local digs. Every child gets an artifact to take home. Suggested ages: 7-10 . (60 minutes, $5.00 per Child, $60 minimum)

 

 

Pioneer Day

Visit our Living History Village in Kirtland and relive the days of the pioneers. During this hands-on program led by costumed guides, children explore day-to-day life in a log cabin, and dip a candle to take home. Suggested Ages: 6-12 yrs (60 minutes, $5.00 per Child, $60 minimum)

 

   

Indian Crafts and Games

Make Native American style crafts and play games natives used to improve their hunting skills. Visit our Indian dwellings in the woods and exciting new immersion space in the museum. Ages 5-9; 90 minutes; $5.00/child ($75.00 minimum)

 

 

Good Old Summer Time Games Day

Your campers will have the opportunity to learn the summer games of yesteryear from jacks and marbles to croquet and horseshoes.  They’ll impress all those grandparents at summer picnics and reunions with their expertise!

   

 

Holidays 2010 Road show Programs for Children

At your site or ours, we bring all supplies for historic educational fun! Select from the following activities: Decorate Gingerbread cookies with royal frosting and story (Our most popular program and great for all ages!) Little House on the Prairie Christmas crafts; Make old-fashioned gifts just like the ones Carrie and Laura Ingalls received when they were young in the famous Little House on the Prairie Series. Visit and pictures with Father Christmas, old-fashioned toys and coloring activity (Great for 2-3 yr olds!) Snow Flake Bentley and craft (Learn about snowflakes, and decorate your classroom with unique snowflake patterns. Suggested ages 7+) Quill pen holiday cards (ages 5+) Holiday programs are offered on weekdays from November through December, 2009. All programs are 50-60 minutes and can start and end at your convenience. Custom programs available at no extra charge. Program cost: $65 for up to 25 students. Additional students $2.00 each.
